Students Admissions

Admissions Overview

We are delighted that you are considering Starehe Girls Centre for your child’s education. We understand that selecting the proper school for your child is an essential decision. The admissions procedure is designed to make your child’s transition to the Centre as smooth as possible while also welcoming your daughter/ward into the Starehe Girls Centre&School community.

We welcome students at the start of each academic year, and we highly encourage parents and guardians to apply as soon as possible. Please keep in mind that submitting all of the relevant papers as specified on the Blue Form Application will help to expedite the compilation of records pending an acceptance decision. An application review will not begin until a complete application is submitted.
Our academic year spans from early January to early December. The first term concludes in early April, the second term begins in May and ends in early August, and the final term begins in September and ends in early December.

Starehe Girls’ Centre welcomes 200 students per year, with three-quarters sponsored students from poor backgrounds and one-quarter self-supported students.

Form 1 Admission

Starehe Girls’ Centre admits 200 students per year, with three-quarters sponsored students from poor backgrounds and one-quarter self-supported students.

The criteria for admission to Form One are:

  1. All candidates must be 15 years old or younger and select Starehe Girls’ Centre as their first choice of National School option.
  2. Each candidate must complete the official Form 1 Blue Application Form, available online and at the School, then deliver it to Starehe Girls’ Centre by July 31st of the year they take their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education. To be considered for admission, the applicant must score high on the KCPE Examinations.
  3. Forms must be signed by the candidate’s parent or guardian, her Head Master or Head Mistress, the Chief, and a minister of religion (such as a pastor, priest, or Imam) who must all validate the girl’s social background.(Not applicable to self-sponsored students.)

Needs Assessment
Need is measured on a scale of 1 to 10, with the least disadvantaged (those in groups 1–5) receiving a discount. After grading, the shortlisted blue forms are organized by county to ensure that each county is represented. A file is then opened for each county ahead of the KCPE results.

The Selection Process
Following the KCPE grading in November/December, individual application forms are reviewed by a 12-member select committee. If there are any uncertainties about a girl’s background, an Officer from the Sponsorship Office may be released to perform a house visit. The entire procedure takes no more than one week and involves extensive debate before reaching a final decision.

Admission Letter
Form One Admission Letter will be issued to all qualified sponsored students via the Ministry of Education website Form One School Placement Letter. The letter contains joining instructions for Form One students. A list of qualified students is also placed on a notice board at the Starehe Girls Centre main entrance for parents and guardians to view.

Form 1 Students Reporting
All selected girls are invited to report on a specific date. After completing the admissions process and ensuring that the correct girl has reported, the student is given a ceremonial welcome and turned over to a sister for full integration into Starehe’s distinctive culture and ethos.
