Curriculum
The Starehe Girls Centre curriculum offers a wide range of options to students with many different interests and talents, and allows for individual attention and assistance. High achievers who need extra challenges are continually stimulated and students of lesser academic capability can progress in a group that builds esteem and confidence. It is underpinned by rock- solid support structures and a highly qualified, dedicated, responsive and committed staff who are passionate in their vocation and accomplished in their various fields
The core curriculum for all students starting at Starehe Girls’ Centre comprises:
- English
- Kiswahili
- Mathematics
Plus three sciences:
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics
Plus the humanities:
- Geography
- History
- Christian OR Islamic religious education
Additional subjects
To reach their mandatory total of 12 subjects, Juniors then have a range of options, covering:
Practical subjects
- Home science (cooking, sewing beadwork etc)
- Agriculture
- Computer studies
Applied subjects: one of these
- French
- German
- Music
- Business studies
Choices for Seniors
After two years, girls become seniors and are able to drop four subjects.
They then have two core options:
Triple science students
- Study the three core subjects; (English, Kiswahili and Mathematics)
- + all three sciences
- + one of the humanities
- + one practical or applied subject
Double science students
- Study the three core subjects;
- + two sciences
- + two of the humanities
- +one practical or applied subject
